A letter to Wells Fargo ...

These advertisements by Wells Fargo we're brought to my attention in a Facebook group for music educators.

Of course, the entire arts community has a right to be offended by this ad campaign. Here is my response which I have already posted on their Facebook page:

"As an educator in the arts, I'm very disappointed in your ad campaign. You are suggesting that the arts will not prepare students for their future. Many people are employed in the arts. In December 2015, the Every Student Succeeds Act was passed which includes the arts alongside math and language arts in its definition of a "well-rounded education." I understand that you want to support STEM jobs, but it shouldn't be at the sacrifice of the arts. You could have easily changed "ballerina" and "actor" to "super hero" and "fairy princess"; the meaning of your ad campaign would not be lost and the dreams the kids are abandoning are truly fictitious careers. (This, of course, is assuming you didn't INTENTIONALLY mean to to post an ad campaign which implies that jobs in the arts are worthless in the future.)"

If you are also outraged, feel free to let Wells Fargo know how you feel. Here is a link to their Facebook page.

  1. The irony is that they wouldn't even have that ad campaign if it weren't for a graphic artist who designed and formatted it. And a font artist who created the fonts. And an artist who created their logo and artist who took the photos of the students. Everything on the page was done by an artist.

It's an ignorant oversight on their part. So disappointing.

  2. When did you post this comment? Didn't see it on their page, nor did I see any comments related to the ad. Are they deleting?

Arts and STEM go together like chang-chang-changity-chang-shoo-bop! And that's the way it should be! Wahoo! Yeah!

  4. What's even more ironic is that people who aren't artists pay money to be entertained by (or adorn their houses with the work of) artists. There's a reason for that...

  5. NafME had a great way of putting it! Simply put: STEAM will get one lots further in education (and life), than just STEM. STEAM includes the ARTS!....I have seen and appreciate the apology posted.

  12. Excellent take on the subject! I must say that it made me think twice on naming my future business and products. Now I am in the process of taking a look at naming agencies that offer a reasonable rate for their service. I came across this one and they seem to be very successful as the CEO even had a bestseller book in Amazon. What do you think? They seem to stand out among the competition.more info

  14. Rather than the 5.1 channels that TX-SR353 brings to the table, this one is a 7.2 channel beneficiary. It accompanies part video, composite sound/video, co-hub computerized sound and optical data sources. The yields incorporate HDMI and a h onkyo tx nr555 remote
